Leandro Lantigua

Formally trained as an Architect, at Pratt Institute in New York City, Leandro Lantigua is the Principal Designer and Founder of Modplay Studio, a Miami based interior architecture and design studio formed in 2016.

For Mr. Lantigua, design is a dynamic process that never stops evolving. For this, one must be aware that great design comes from an understanding of space. Because of its uncluttered simplicity and integration of nature into architecture and design, Lantigua draws heavily from the Mid-Century Modern movement (Americas reflection of the International and Bauhaus movements). Large swaths of plain architectural features and the blending of materials like stone, wood, and steel are traits of his work, a technique he has developed over the course of his career as both a designer and a fabricator.

His design philosophy is based on the idea that creating everlasting environments or works of art requires combining modern design with traditional craftsmanship. Leandro’s method is not based on a predetermined aesthetic or personal style; rather, it develops organically through a search for concepts, solutions, and spatial circumstances. He is adamant that architecture is a response to basic human needs at its most basic, but that at its highest level, it is the responsibility of an architect or designer to introduce new perspectives and new dynamics into spaces.
